SUASOPS stands for Small Unmanned Aircraft System Operators/Operations.
This blog will focus only on UK operators/operations using RPAS (Remotely Piloted Air Systems) under 20Kg. maximum all up weight for aerial work - aerial photography, video and sensing (e.g. InfraRed etc.) .
The CAA approved UK body for qualifying aircrew/operators and SUAS/RPAS is EUROUSC who administer the BNUC-S qualification:
" The BNUC-S™ Standard provides a common basis for the acceptance of
pilot and crew competence in relation to the operation of UAS/RPAS with a Maximum Take-Off
Mass (MTOM) of less than 20kg that are used for “Aerial Work” under
Visual Line of Sight (VLOS) or Extended VLOS (E-VLOS) operational conditions. "
So, although there is much in common between flying SUAS/RPAS and Radio Controlled (RC) model aircraft this blog not about RC model flying.
